Just wanted to update you on my cinema trip to see ‘Populaire’ last week which I had been counting the hours down to see. So, dressed in a vintage navy day dress (which I found in New York) I made my way to the cinema to catch it ahead of the national release date.
It didn’t disappoint, the film was just as the trailer promised – 50s fashion, typewriters, a love story and funny! It really is a must. Set in 1958 the main character Rose goes to work as a secretary in Lisieux in Normandy. To keep her job she must enter the world of speed typing competitions and as a result her whole world changes….
Get yourself to the cinema at the end of the month to find out what happens (I am sure you can guess). I will say one thing you will never see your PC in the same light – it’s all about the typewriter. Here are some images from the film to get you in the mood courtesy of Wildbunch:
After seeing the film I saw my auntie and explained she had to see it too (I will tell anyone who wants to hear). Moments later she presented me with the below and a guide book. Amazing as in the film she paints her nails different colours to match the keys in order to help her type quicker (it’s all the fashion).
So with all the joy of seeing the film and finding typewriters (as one does) I am now on the look out for some more vintage delights for your work wardrobe to bring to Monica’s Vintage fair in June. Will let you know how I get on.
